PrAACtical Solutions Consulting provides virtual consulting services to individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and to their support teams. As an Assistive Technology (AT) Professional specializing in AAC and somebody who uses AAC, I am committed to developing personalized and practical solutions to maximize participation and engagement in all aspects of life that involve communication.
Mentoring for Individuals Who Use AAC
Navigating life and the world as someone who uses AAC can be challenging and daunting. Mentoring services provide clients with effective and practical strategies and tools to achieve personal goals and conquer the unique challenges that using AAC presents.

AAC mentoring services are tailored to each client's unique needs and goals related to communication and commonly focus on:

developing social skills (greetings, maintaining conversation, repairing communication breakdowns)

using AAC in public and with unfamiliar communication partners

strategies for managing specific situations that occur within the client's daily life

exploring tools and apps to be used in conjunction with their AAC system to enhance their communication

Clients will build the confidence and self-advocacy skills necessary to navigate life using AAC. They will be prepared to handle stares, pointing, uninformed comments, impatient communication partners, and questions about their disability or use of AAC.

Coaching for Parents & Caregivers of Individuals Who Use AAC
Being a parent and caregiver to a child with complex communication needs can be overwhelming as you try to transition skills learned in speech therapy to the real world.
Coaching services provide clients with manageable and accessible strategies for the implementation of AAC at home and in the community. You will be supported to integrate AAC into your existing life and daily routines while fostering the development of functional language and communication skills.

Parent and caregiver coaching services complement your child's speech therapy and are personalized to your specific lifestyle and goals. I will empower you with the tools and strategies to:

enhance accessibility for your child at school, at home, and in the community

transform everyday activities into learning opportunities to develop your child’s communication skills

Clinical Consulting for SLPs, Educators, & Related Professionals
Clinical consulting services are for professionals who have clients with complex communication needs on their caseload. Together we will address AAC access needs for your clients and determine practical solutions to maximize access to reliable, efficient, and effective communication methods. Clinical consulting includes guidance on:

selecting appropriate AAC systems and accessories to trial and/or purchase

determining reliable and efficient access methods for individuals with all abilities

customizing AAC systems to maximize communication efficiency and the individual's authentic expression

supporting the client in actively engaging with their environment

Whether you are a speech-language pathologist, educator, paraprofessional, or related professional, clinical consulting will increase your confidence and skills in supporting the unique communication needs and abilities of those you serve.

AAC Implementation Training to Increase Accessibility & Inclusion
The success of AAC implementation requires a transdisciplinary and collaborative approach in which families, educators, and therapists all take an active role in the implementation process. This training will examine:

practical and engaging implementation strategies to be used across school, home, and community contexts

how to provide naturalistic opportunities for communicative and linguistic development

resources for enhancing collaboration on AAC support teams to maximize communication and language skill development
